Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge Pudding Cake

Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge Pudding Cake

A few days ago, I posted a recipe for baking bread in the crock pot (see here).  Since that turned out so well – I thought I would give cake a try!  To find a recipe, I went back to the same cookbook – “Fix It and Forget It”.  There are quite a few recipes for baking desserts listed, but the Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge Pudding Cake is what caught my eye. It turned out great!  I especially enjoyed the hot fudge sauce!  I love making pudding cakes in the crock pot – you just mix them up and let them cook.   So easy and so good!

Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge Pudding Cake

1/2 cup flour

1/4 cup sugar

3/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/3 cup milk

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup sugar

3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup boiling water

vanilla ice cream

Combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and baking powder.  Add milk, oil, and vanilla.  Mix until smooth.  Stir in peanut butter.  Pour into slow cooker.  Mix together 1/2 cup sugar and cocoa powder. Gradually stir in boiling water.  Pour mixture over batter in slow cooker.  Do not stir.  Cover and cook on “High” for 2 – 3 hours, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.  Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

The total cost for this recipe is just under $.70 – for the entire dish (not including the ice cream)!  That’s quite a deal! This will definitely be making a regular appearance in my home!

Do you make desserts in your slow cooker?  If so, what are your favorite recipes?  I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Peanut butter has the dubious honour of being seated right next to vegemite in our house. One of my daughters loves it…the other can’t stand it. My husband isn’t a fan (unless it is rendered spicy and made into a Satay or Thai sauce) and I adore it and could eat it with a spoon from the jar. I wonder if I could sneak it into a pudding like this and he would like it? I will give it a shot because this looks WONDERFUL, easy and “cheap as chips” and I dare say the fact that it is loaded with chocolaty goodness might go part way to disguising the terrifying secret that “There is peanut butter in there!…ECH!”…wish me luck!

  2. Oh my goodness… my mouth is watering looking at all the fabulous recipes showcased in your blog!! You must be quite talented in the kitchen. I hope you liked visiting my blog 🙂

    • I think you could double it, I got 6 servings out of the recipe (I served it with ice cream). I would just suggest to check the timing, it might take a little longer. If you do, please let me know how it turns out…I would love to double this one!

  3. I’m doing a Vegan challenge this week, so I’m going to use coconut milk and omit the oil. This sounds soooo good! 🙂

  4. I had to reblog it! I just tried it because today happened to be a holiday here and I had time, and wow! I can do this on a regular night no problem! Thank you so much it was delicious!

  5. i am intrigued – i have seen recipes for cakes and breads in the crock but just haven’t been able to reconcile the idea that non savory dinner dishes can become accomplished dishes if only i would give them a shot! i am inspired to try this…or at least i am getting closer to it!

  6. This is rather exciting! I’ve just rediscovered my parents old 1970s crockpot and haven’t been game to make anything other than a beef stew in it yet. I might just have to give this a go!

  8. Funny. I was just thinking about making a pudding cake recipe tonight to go with the ice cream in my freezer, however, mine’s a microwave recipe. First I was going to do the choc.-peanut butter, but I think I might be adventurous and try choc.-mint. 🙂
