Overnight oatmeal seems to be all the rage these days, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about. The recipe I found is from The Pinterest Project (this is a fantastic site – so many great recipes and ideas!) The oatmeal took almost no time to put together and was so yummy! It was so nice to have breakfast taken care of when I woke up. I will be definitely be making these often! Even my kids liked them, and they hate oatmeal! Score one for mom!
Mango Strawberry Banana Overnight Oatmeal – 1 serving
1/4 cup uncooked oatmeal
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup vanilla yogurt
2 teaspoons chopped nuts (I used almonds)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon sugar or honey (I used sugar)
1/4 cup chopped fruit (I used Mangoes, Strawberries and Bananas)
Simply mix all the ingredients together and place in a covered container in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, it’s ready to go!
The total cost for one serving came to $.32 – not a bad price, and it was very filling (Did I mention yummy? These are so good!). My kids liked that they could choose what fruit they wanted to use. I like that too, anything to get them to eat a healthy breakfast!
Have you made anything from Pinterest? What are your quick and healthy breakfast recipes? I’d love to hear from you!
These oatmeals are all over the internet. I tried a chocolate chip one, and, yes, it was fabulous! (Anything with chocolate usually is…)
This looks really great, too. I love that it has fruits and nuts in it. Lots of good stuff in there! I’ll have to give it a try. 🙂
For our breakfasts, the kids usually still want cereal, but I usually have a green smoothie and love it! http://reinidays.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/berry-green-smoothie/
I haven’t tried a green smoothie yet – but I keep hearing such great things about them. I’ll have to give it a try! Thanks for the link!
Since I’ve never heard of this, I need a little more help with it. Do you put it together and then in the refrigerator over night. The next morning the oatmeal is “cooked?” Then do you heat it up or eat it cold? Just put it in the microwave? I would like to try it although Hubby is the best “oatmeal maker” in the whole world. I don’t know what it is about his oatmeal, but it is so yummy. Thanks for sharing this.
Sorry about that! Yes, you mix it all up and place it in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, it’s ready to go – you eat it cold. It tastes like a yogurt/granola parfait (except not a crunchy). Hope this helps!
Thanks, we will certainly give it a try.
Yum! I’ve been looking for an overnight oats recipe that doesn’t have a bunch of crazy ingredients, this sounds great!
That’s exactly why I tried this one!
i used to make it years ago when i was easing my way into raw food ~ didn’t realize it’s a rage now. i forgot all about it so thanks for reminding me ~
i’ve got to go check out pinterest ~ i’m really late to that party
LOL – I’m pretty new to pinterest myself!
I’ve been curious about this, not sure if I would like it. Now I’m definitely gonna give it a go!
I wasn’t sure about it either, but I’m so glad I tried it!
What kind of oatmeal did you use? Think it would work with steel cut oats? (They usually take a little longer to cook)
Either way, I will have to give this a try. I guess I’m the only one that hadn’t heard about it before today! lol
I used regular old-fashioned oats – not the steel cut variety. I think they would work with those too, although the finished product will be a little chewier. If you try it, I would love to know how they turn out!
Lovely photo – that sounds absolutely delicious!
Thanks – they turned out really good!
Recipe looks fab – much better than commercial breakfast cereals. Will try it out tonight 🙂
That was my thought too…much better for me and the kids than sugary breakfast cereals or processed breakfast bars!
It was yummy! Didn’t have any mango or strawberries so my daughter turned her nose up at it but I’m hoping to win her over when I get hold of some.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Sound delicious! I find a lot of recipes on Pintrest including the recipe I made last night for dinner.
Thanks, I’m pretty new to Pinterest, but I do love it!
I’ve been seeing a lot of overnight oatmeal too! Great post. Really pushes me to try it myself because your’s looks terrific.
Thanks, I am so glad I tried it, it was really good!
I saw this pin about overnight oats, and was thinking about making them…definitely going to put this together for tomorrow’s breakfast, thanks! 🙂
Sure! They were really good – let me know how you like it!
I love oatmeal, but on school mornings it’s often takes too much time to make. (Yep, we’re always rushing out the door trying to get to school on time :0) So I definitely want to try this one out. Thanks for sharing another great recipe!
Your welcome! The best part about these is how simple and quick they are. It literally took me 5 minutes to put together, and that includes cutting up the fruit!
I have all these ingredients : ) Definitely going to make this for me and my family.
If you do, I would love to hear what you think!
Just beautiful! I was not a big fan of oatmean until I started adding fruit to it. I like the combination of strawberries and mangoes. Unfortunately in India they are not available in the same season. Both have a pretty short season, and months apart!
Oh that is sad! I like oatmeal with fruit too – I think banana and blueberry are my favorites!
My favorite way to eat overnight oats is when I have an almost empty nut butter jar. You mix all the ingredients in the jar(almond butter is the best, in my opinion) and the next morning you get a real treat.
That sounds fantastic!!!!!
you should try adding chia seeds – it will make it so creamy and delicious!
I have never tried chia seeds, so I’m not familiar with what they are like – but I will have to give them a try!
I’m not a Pinterest user or a raw foods connoisseur, and somehow (though I LOVE oatmeal), I have never heard of overnight oatmeal before! Definitely need to make some now, though! This sounds delicious.
Thanks! It really is yummy – and so easy to make!
Hi, since I enjoy your site and blog posts, I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award.
🙂 Thank you so very much! I’m honored!
Yummy! I am going to get yogurt tomorrow so I can try it!
🙂 I’d love to hear how you like them!
I will let you know. 🙂
I love oatmeal and nuts, so I definitely have to try this one. Thanks!
Sure! If you do, please let me know what you think!
