Homemade Microwave Popcorn!

While watching movies with my family tonight, my hubby had a major craving for popcorn…so we decided  to try making our own microwave popcorn  – just for fun!

Normally I make popcorn on top of the stove (the old-fashioned way), but my daughter read somwhere that you could make popcorn in the microwave using a brown paper lunch bag.  We decided to give it a try.  It works and is super simple!  A great alternative to using the store bought kind!

Homemade Microwave Popcorn

Homemade Microwave Popcorn

1 1/2 teaspoons oil

1/4 cup popcorn kernals

1/4 teaspoon salt (or more to taste)

Open up a brown paper lunch bag and pour the oil in the bottom of the bag.  Add the kernals and the salt.  Fold over the top of the bag two times and place upright in the center of the microwave.  Heat on high for 2 – 3 minutes until popping slows to one or two seconds in between pops.  Give a shake and enjoy!  At this point you can add any additional seasonings like butter or parmesan.  We kept ours “as is” but will be experimenting with different seasonings soon!

Be careful as the steam inside the bag is hot!

Enjoy!  I would love to hear how you like it!
