I made this cake for my step-daughter’s 16th birthday party…it was a hit and super easy too!
It starts with your favorite cake, I used a basic chocolate cake recipe (soon to be posted) baked as directed in two, 8 inch cake pans. Once completely cool, I frosted it with a simple marshmallow frosting (soon to be posted, you can use any you like!). Finally, take about 4 large Kit Kat bars and break them apart. Press them into the frosting on the sides of the cake. Top with M&M’s (I used one large bag), tie a ribbon around the cake and voila! How simple is that!
I also made cupcakes using the same cake and frosting recipe to go with it. Couldn’t be easier!
I hope you try it! If so, let me know how it turns out!
Thanks for the like on my blog. This cake looks fun!!
Thanks for stopping by! It’s fun and super easy!
The large cake is nice but the cupcakes are absolutely darling!
Thank you!
The cake is adorable! I’m a huge fan of from-scratch chocolate cake, and the addition of Kit Kats and M&Ms can only make it better. Very creative.
Thank you so much!
Someone did this for one of my boy’s preschool parties and it was SO pretty! Love it! Thanks for liking my last blog post too!
I love how easy yet beautiful it is! And your welcome!
The cake looks super tasty! It kinda looks like a chocolate basket of M&Ms
It is yummy! And you are right, it does look like a basket of M&M’s!
You are an awesome step-mum Stephanie!
Aww – that is so sweet! Thank you!
This may just be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen… I LOVE it!
Thank you very much!
Cheers for the like on my blog!
The Kit Kat cake looks like the perfect cake for a kid’s birthday party! I have to try it…
Kids love it – well, really who doesn’t like cake AND candy! Let me know how you like it!
I love this idea and I’m sure my daughter would go crazy for this cake! Can’t wait for your cake and frosting recipes too 🙂
Thanks! My kids love it – it’s like they get two desserts at once!
Wow! This is awesome!
Thanks! My kids are always asking for it!
I drooled a little on my keyboard.
🙂
Thanks for liking my post! You can substitute and use dried italian herb mix.
That looks so yummy! I need a birthday in my near future to make this for someone! 🙂
Yes! Although I have found it also makes a great “welcome to the weekend” cake… 🙂
Well welcome to the weekend to me, then! 😀
Yumm! Thanks for liking my mini cheesecakes post. Wish I could taste through my computer. This cake looks amazing.
I would love to taste through the computer! Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and liking my artichoke post. 🙂 I’m excited to explore your blog more, particularly as a Christian woman who’s trying to cook/bake more from scratch. I’m definitely finding a joy in becoming more domestic as that has often times eluded me! 🙂 I don’t know what lured you to my humble blog, but hopefully you’ll be back as I try to keep up with it on a regular basis. Blessings and I’m already going to be visiting that cinnamon roll recipe (I just tried them about a month ago and I’m interested in seeing what you did with yours!). 🙂
I really liked your blog – and I LOVE artichokes (and I also really enjoyed your post about trials in life) – I will be back for sure! Thanks for stopping by and let me know how you like the cinnamon rolls!
I want to make a kitkat cake–that looks amazing! Thanks for sharing:-) Also thanks for stopping by foodfor fun:-)
Your Welcome!
How yummy, creative, and clever!

So cute! I loved Kit Kats when I was younger, so I can only imagine this being a kid’s dream birthday cake 🙂
Thanks! My kids think so!
This looks super cool!!! Like your work!
Thank you – that’s very sweet!
Hi Stephanie, my daughter posted the picture of the large cake on my facebook a while ago and instructed me to make this for her 18th birthday. We were discussing what type of cake was inside. We loved it and the cup cakes look awesome! Thanks for liking my post. Much appreciated 🙂
That’s really sweet! My two year old just pulled a picture of a rainbow cake out of a magazine – she told me that’s what I will be making as her birthday cake in June. I love it though!
Thanks for visiting my blog, ArtistMum.wordpress.com. And liking my post. I appreciate your ‘visit’! Love those cupcakes! Who wouldn’t like Kit-Kats on cupcakes! Love it 🙂
I agree! Cake plus candy is the best!
Hi Stephanie,
What a fun cake. Really good idea, thanks for sharing it.
Thank you for stopping by my blog last week.
Shelley
Hi Shelley! Thanks for stopping by as well!
They look fantastic, wow, what a great inspiration!
Thanks!
Oooh I’m liking the idea of it as a ‘Welcome to the Weekend’ cake! Cakes are always better with kitkats. I added grated white kitkat to a pavlova we made not long ago, and I won’t make it again without it!
It looks so yummy! Thanks for the like on today’s post.
That is a great idea for pavlova – something I will have to try!
Mom Nom! 🙂
Indeed!
looks yummy. Love your blog! thanks for stopping by today. we will be giving away a free Beach body (total body solutions) DVD tomorrow. Hope you stop back tomorrow and participate
Sounds great! Thanks!
My husband would love this cake! Thanks for liking my post, “Pie Crust So Simple Your Son Could Make It”. I really like the name of your blog, too.
Your welcome! When I saw your post – I had visions of my 14 year old son in the kitchen! Thanks for stopping by!
I admit, I had my kids cooking when they were 14. My college freshman actually took two cooking classes in high school. He enjoyed them.
🙂 I started my kids pretty young – it’s so interesting to see how creative they can get when I let them loose. My son’s favorite thing to make is peanut butter cookies (he also makes a mean stir-fry)!
My oldest son once added green food coloring to hamburger and beans for St. Patrick’s Day. None of us could eat it because it looked like diarrhea!
That’s funny!
This is so adorable! AND creative. I am a terrible baker so even something that you say is “simple” is impressive to me!!
Thank you! This one really is easy – the candy does all the work!
That cake looks like it would be so much fun to eat! What a lucky step-daughter!
Thanks! It is a lot of fun to eat – as easy as it is to make!
Fun and easy to make? That’s a winner in my book!
Mine too!
Gorgeous, creative and so fun to look at, even better I’m sure it tasted amazing!!!
It was very yummy! I still get requests for it!
thanks for the like on my blog. loved this cake.
Thank you – and thanks for stopping by!
This looks so great! I love candy and mother’s day is soon. Just maybe!! I enjoy reading your blog. I am thrilled that you are not a shamed to say that you too are a Christian blogger who loves God.

Your pictures are great!
Thanks for the compliments and for stopping by! I really enjoyed your blog – I started following you!
Oh my goodness–my kids would think they’d died and gone to heaven! Cake AND candy! I’m going to save this one!
That’s exactly what my kids think! It’s really yummy!
Thank you for “liking” my blog 🙂 I can’t wait to try this cake!! My girls will love it! Thanks for sharing!
Sure! If you try it, I’d love to hear how you like it!
Stephanie, I love this idea!! I may have to reblog it on my website or do an article for http://www.inanirishhome.wordpress.com about birthday cakes. My friends back in Ireland would love how easy this cake is to make and how great it looks! Thank you for sharing the idea.
Absolutely! Great website by the way!
Many thanks for permission and for the compliment!! Glad you like the site. I’m so new to this but having great fun and learning loads. Now, if I could only figure out how to use my camera properly.
It is great fun, isn’t it?! I’m still working on using my camera too – it has settings that I have no idea how to use!
Ok, that makes me feel great! I thought I was the only one who was “winging it”! Last night I feel asleep in bed with the “How to Guide” for my D80 camera. 😉
Ha! I totally relate – I’m so new to blogging and photography, I still get really excited when I take a picture and it isn’t blurry!
Amen! I feel the same way.
Glad to hear I’m not alone!
This has got to be one of the cutest cakes I have ever seen!
Aww – thanks!

Awwww – thanks!
Thanks for dropping by my Blog Stephanie. I love your Kitkat cupcakes idea, the cake as well…..but it’s just so hot in Chennai that the Kitkat would just melt. So the cupcakes work better for me.
I believe in cooking from scratch as much as possible and will definitely be stopping by your blog often.
Thanks! I’m so glad you stopped by!
so cute!! what a creative idea to kick up a birthday cake!
Thanks! It was a really big hit!
Nice! Where can i find the recipe for your Marshmallow frosting?
I haven’t posted it yet…but here it is:
1 pound butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
16 ounces marshmallow cream (marshmallow fluff)
In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy – add in sugar and beat until fluffy. Stir in vanilla and marshmallow cream until well mixed. You can also tint this any color you want – or add different extracts for other flavors.
Enjoy!
thanks
Sure!
Love this recipe! I did try it once, but with Butterfinger candy bars and a vanilla cake. Still works!! Thanks!
That sounds right up my alley! I LOVE butterfingers! Will have to give that one a try! Thanks!
Hey, Stephanie, thank you for the “like.” Wow! That cake looks awesome! What a lucky stepdaughter!! If you have anything you make in 1 minute — on the healthy side and around 300 calories — send it over. If it fits the parameters, I’ll put it up on my site and give you the credit! Sadly…no butterfingers or kit kats — ha! But I’ll come to your site for that!
Hi! I will be on the lookout for recipes that fit your parameters! I love a challenge! Thanks for stopping by!
My son loves Kit kat’s so I plan to make this for his birthday!
Great! Stop by and let me know how he likes it!

Of course! You can’t go wrong with cake AND candy!
This looks delicious, I can’t wait to try it out soon on my son’s 16th – he’s always loved kitkats, he’ll be thrilled
That will be great! I’d love to hear how it turns out!
What a very clever idea. I am going to ask my daughter to do one for me!
Love the Smarties.
🙂 I’d love to hear how it goes!
so fun! i’m planning on making this for a colleague’s birthday in a few weeks and am wondering if it’s possible to a) use 9-inch springform pans (I’m assuing it would just require more Kit Kat bars) and b) to make it 3 layers high instead of 2? or perhaps four layers would be the right height to stack the Kat Kat bars vertically and then use a wider ribbon to hide the place where they join?
I think it would work – As long as the kit kat bars stick to the frosting, your good to go as high as you want! You can make it in any size pan you want, you’ll just have to adjust the amount of kit kat’s and m&m’s – let me know how it works out!
