That’s not a typo – it’s true. With three ingredients (plus a topping of your choice) you can have a rich chocolate cake – in only 1 minute! If you’ve ever had a chocolate craving but didn’t have the time or will to bake – this is for you. I topped mine with buttercream frosting (leftover from a cake I made) – but you can use chocolate chips, whipped cream, ice cream, hot fudge, caramel sauce…you get the idea!
The cake definitely needs a topping, otherwise it dries out rather quickly. But for 3 ingredients and 1 minute of your time – how can you go wrong?!
3 Ingredient Chocolate Cake In A Mug
1 egg
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 – 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (I used 1 1/2 tablespoons – it depends on how chocolatey you like things!)
Break egg into a coffee mug and add remaining ingredients. Beat well – you want to make sure the cocoa is completely mixed it). Microwave for 50 – 60 seconds until just puffed. The cake will fall as you remove it from the microwave. Top immediately with desired toppings. Enjoy!
My kids really enjoyed this – they had a blast trying new flavors for the topping – one even melted peanut butter and marshmallows for the top!
Do you have a favorite dessert in a mug recipe? I’d love to hear from you!
This recipe is a keeper for a quick chocolate fix. I’ve never tried any of these recipes in a mug. Have you tried this with anything other than chocolate? ❤
No but am very interested in doing peanut butter and also maybe strawberry and also a spice of some kind. Next time I make this I want to top it with caramel sauce and whipped cream….yum!
This sounds perfects for those days you’re craving a little chocolate fix! Love it!
Exactly! Just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth!
I nominated you for a ‘one lovely blog award’. For details: http://bliss-athome.com
Thank you so very much! I really appreciate the nomination! 🙂 What a great day!
You are so welcome! –Kristin
I also haven’t tried any of these mug recipes, but they sure look good!
You are so creative!
My type of cooking lol! I assume when you say powered sugar, you mean what we call icing sugar, which is what we mix to decorate cakes etc?
Yes it is the same thing! This is one of the best quick desserts I’ve ever tried!
I love quick and simple lol. I did a microwave pineapple upside down cake once and it was (despite my misgivings) very very tasty, Thanks
Me too – That sounds great! I love pineapple upside down cake!
Unfortunately I lost the recipe, which is typical because I could actually cook it right lol
Posts like this make me wish we still had a microwave (at least for a minute…hee hee). Looks yummy!!
🙂 Thanks!
great idea…..even for us gluten free people because no flour! thanks!
Sure! You might like my 3 ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies then too!
Looks like fun cooking with the microwave!
It’s great when you want a little something something…and don’t want to make a full cake!
The recipe we like to go with around here is 2 T sugar, 2 T flour, 1 T cocoa powder, 1.5 T oil, 1.5 T milk (or milk powder mixed w/ water), and a tiny pinch of salt (the salt’s an absolute MUST). I like to nuke it for about 40 seconds for a fudgy texture. This is actually half of what original recipe called for, but I find that it’s the perfect amount to satisfy a sweet tooth – we just use really small cups. Favorite “stir-ins” before nuking include a small spoonful of peanut butter, a small handful of shredded coconut, or a tiny pinch of instant coffee powder. Yum yum! 😀
Yum! That sounds really good – I was thinking of adding peanut butter to my next microwave cake!
That looks great! I’ve tried mug recipes with more ingredients and they were yummy. I’ll have to give this a shot too!
Me too – I like that this only has 3 ingredients – perfect when you need to get to the store!
You can’t get much easier than that! I can’t wait to try…
I’d love to hear what you think if you try it!
This is so yummy. I discovered this type of recipe about 2 years ago when I was nursing my daughter. I could not eat anything with dairy or soy bc of her food allergies and this was one of the only desserts I could eat. It is delicious. In fact I still make it even though now I am eating dairy and soy. Thank you!
🙂 Have you ever tried non-chocolate type cakes? I’m looking to try maybe a strawberry mug cake or spice…
no but that is a great idea. I have found lots of good and easy recipes like this on sites for people with food allergies. I am going to search around and see if I can find some other varieties.
Please share what you find out! 🙂
yes I will. Thank you!
Easy chocolate, you’ve got my attention! Thanks!
🙂 You can’t go wrong with a one minute chocolate dessert!
Wow! Looks yumm! I am sure the kiddo here will love it 🙂
It was a huge hit with my kids – especially since they could put it together themselves! No oven required!

Oh, this was so good! I put some Neufchatel cream cheese on top and after I ate a few bites, dropped a Dove chocolate in the middle until it melted. This recipe is delicious and turned out perfect!
Wow that sound so yummy! Great idea – I’ll be trying it out! Thanks!
Yum!
Very! Although the fact that I can make chocolate cake at anytime probably isn’t the best for my waist! 🙂
Um, yes please! That’s awesome. I can totally make that!
